Flux 3 Max vs Seedance 2.5: Is It Really 22× Faster?

Flux 3 Max vs Seedance 2.5 compared on speed, quality, price, clip length and references, using fal's launch numbers and the Artificial Analysis leaderboard.

Flux 3 Max vs Seedance 2.5 is the comparison fal chose for its launch. On 19 October 2026, fal said Flux 3 Max matches ByteDance's Seedance 2.5 on image-to-video quality while rendering a 10-second clip more than 22 times faster. The quality half of that claim is backed by a public leaderboard. The speed half comes from fal's own tests.

This guide puts the two models side by side on the things that decide which one you should use: speed, quality, price per clip, clip length, and how well each one keeps a character on model. Every number has a source and a date. Where sources disagree, we say so. If you want to test Flux 3 Max yourself, the Flux 3 Max video generator on our homepage runs image-to-video with no API key.

Key Takeaways

  • On the Artificial Analysis image-to-video leaderboard, Flux 3 Max and Seedance 2.5 both score 1,138 Elo, with overlapping confidence intervals. Treat quality as a tie.
  • fal measured 10.95 seconds for a 10-second Flux 3 Max clip and 277.80 seconds for Seedance 2.5. These are fal's numbers, and no third party has repeated the Seedance test yet.
  • Artificial Analysis lists Flux 3 Max at $2.55 per minute of video and Seedance 2.5 at $24.60. The Flux 3 Max figure is a launch discount that ends on 7 November 2026.
  • Seedance 2.5 makes longer single clips (up to 30 seconds vs 20) and accepts far more reference files, so it is still the better pick for recurring characters.
  • A practical split: draft and render b-roll, product shots and establishing shots with Flux 3 Max, and keep face-locked character work on Seedance.

Flux 3 Max vs Seedance 2.5 at a Glance

Flux 3 Max is the faster and, for now, much cheaper model. Seedance 2.5 is the more flexible one for long, reference-heavy shots. The table below collects the published figures as of 20 October 2026.

Is Flux 3 Max Really 22× Faster Than Seedance 2.5?

By fal's own measurement, yes, and by a wider margin than the headline. fal's release reports 10.95 seconds to generate a 10-second Flux 3 Max video and 277.80 seconds for Seedance 2.5 at the same length. That works out to about 25 times faster. fal rounded it down to "over 22×", and Black Forest Labs' launch post on X used "22× faster" with a "10-second video in 12 seconds" figure (Black Forest Labs on X, 19 Oct 2026).

Three caveats matter before you plan around that number:

  1. It is a vendor test. Digg and OrcaRouter both point out that no third party has benchmarked the Seedance side yet (Digg, OrcaRouter, 20 Oct 2026).
  2. The figures move around. fal's release says 10.95 seconds. Black Forest Labs says about 12. Either way it is close to real time, but expect your own wall-clock time to include queueing.
  3. Settings change speed. VentureBeat reports that Flux 3 Max text-to-video has low and high reasoning settings, and that the high setting takes longer.

The one public timing test we found ran Flux 3 Max against the older FLUX 3, not against Seedance. SunoMV submitted both on fal's public endpoints on the same day and measured 21 seconds (high reasoning) and 13 seconds (low reasoning) for a 10-second 720p text-to-video clip, including queue time (SunoMV, 20 Oct 2026). That is slower than fal's lab number but still a fraction of the 277.80 seconds fal reports for Seedance 2.5.

Which Model Has Better Video Quality?

Neither, on current evidence. Artificial Analysis runs blind pairwise votes on its Video Arena. On its image-to-video board, retrieved on 20 October 2026, Flux 3 Max (720p) scores 1,138 Elo with a 95% confidence interval of ±15 across 5,054 votes. Seedance 2.5 also scores 1,138, ±17 across 3,688 votes (Artificial Analysis).

The two intervals overlap almost completely, so "tied" is the honest reading. The same board puts MiniMax H3 one point higher at 1,140, also inside the overlap. fal's "tied for #1" wording reflects that cluster. Note that fal's own release quotes 1,139 Elo from 4,868 votes, an earlier snapshot of the same board.

Three things the leaderboard does not tell you:

  • It covers image-to-video only. It says nothing about text-to-video, editing or audio quality.
  • It compares Flux 3 Max at 720p. Seedance 2.5's resolution on the board is not stated per vote.
  • Votes judge short clips. The board does not test 20 or 30-second shots, where drift and character consistency show up.

The pattern from launch-week write-ups is consistent: Flux 3 Max looks strongest on scenes, motion and camera work, and Seedance 2.5 stays ahead when the same face has to survive many shots. We cover the rest of the top ten in the best image-to-video models of October 2026.

How Much Do Flux 3 Max and Seedance 2.5 Cost?

Right now Flux 3 Max costs roughly a tenth of Seedance 2.5 per minute of video, but most of that gap is a launch promotion. Artificial Analysis lists $2.55 per minute for Flux 3 Max (720p) and $24.60 per minute for Seedance 2.5 (Artificial Analysis, retrieved 20 Oct 2026).

The $2.55 figure equals fal's launch rate of $0.0425 per second at 720p. fal is running 75% off for the first three weeks, through 7 November 2026 (AlphaSignal, fal press release). SunoMV reports the list price as $0.17 per second at 720p and $0.29 at 1080p, the same as FLUX 3.

Cost of one 10-second clip720p1080p
Flux 3 Max, launch rate (to 7 Nov 2026)$0.43$0.73
Flux 3 Max, list rate$1.70$2.90
Seedance 2.5 (Artificial Analysis rate)≈ $4.10—

Our arithmetic from the per-second and per-minute rates above. Seedance pricing on BytePlus is token-based and varies by input, so treat the Seedance row as an estimate.

Even at list price, Flux 3 Max stays cheaper per clip than the Seedance rate Artificial Analysis publishes. The difference shrinks from about 10× to about 2.4× at 720p. Seedance 2.5 also has a regional catch: llm-stats reports that BytePlus does not offer the Seedance 2.5 API in the United States (llm-stats).

On our site you pay in credits instead of per-second API fees. Current rates for each length and resolution are on the pricing page.

Clip Length, References and Character Consistency

This is where Seedance 2.5 earns its price. Third-party guides describe a 30-second single pass and up to 50 reference files in one request, split as 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio clips (Apiframe, Morphic). That lets you pin a face, an outfit and a voice across a sequence.

Flux 3 Max works differently. It accepts a start frame, or a first and last frame, and fills in the motion. The FLUX 3 family tops out at 20 seconds per clip (The Decoder). SunoMV's review puts the limit plainly: FLUX's reference mode means keyframes, not face lock.

What that means in practice:

  • Recurring characters, close-ups and turning shots: Seedance 2.5 (or Seedance 2.0, which some testers still prefer for human faces, per Pletor).
  • Products and objects that must stay on model: Flux 3 Max with a first and last frame. The end frame pins the final look.
  • Anything longer than 20 seconds in one take: Seedance 2.5, or chain several Flux 3 Max clips.

Our image-to-video tool supports both a single start frame and a first-and-last-frame pair on Flux 3 Max.

When Should You Use Flux 3 Max vs Seedance 2.5?

Pick by shot type, not by leaderboard rank, because the leaderboard calls it a tie.

Your shotBetter choiceWhy
B-roll, landscapes, establishing shotsFlux 3 MaxSame quality score, seconds instead of minutes, lower price
Storyboarding and prompt testingFlux 3 MaxFast enough to iterate on every shot
Product reveal with a fixed end frameFlux 3 MaxFirst-and-last-frame mode keeps the product on model
Social clips from one photoFlux 3 MaxShort clips with sound, quick turnaround
Same character across many scenesSeedance 2.5Many reference images and face-driven consistency
One continuous 20–30 second takeSeedance 2.530-second single pass vs a 20-second ceiling
Lip-synced performance with a voice referenceSeedance 2.5Accepts audio references

A hybrid workflow is what most teams will land on. SunoMV recommends drafting and iterating with Flux 3 Max, then rendering the performance clips with a face-locked model. Speed changes how you work: when a render takes 15 seconds instead of five minutes, you can try ten prompts for one shot.

To try that loop, start with a photo or a prompt in the Flux 3 Max video generator. If you are starting from text only, use the text-to-video tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Flux 3 Max better than Seedance 2.5?

Not on quality. Both score 1,138 Elo on the Artificial Analysis image-to-video leaderboard, a statistical tie. Flux 3 Max is much faster and cheaper per clip. Seedance 2.5 supports longer clips and many more reference inputs.

Is the 22× faster claim verified?

Not yet. It comes from fal's latency tests (10.95 s vs 277.80 s for a 10-second clip). Independent tests so far compare Flux 3 Max with FLUX 3, not with Seedance 2.5.

Can Flux 3 Max keep the same face across clips?

Only partly. You can pin a start frame and an end frame, which keeps a subject close to the source image. It does not take a set of face references the way Seedance 2.5 does, so for a recurring cast Seedance is the safer choice.

How long can Flux 3 Max and Seedance 2.5 videos be?

Flux 3 Max makes 5 to 20 second clips. Seedance 2.5 is reported to make up to 30 seconds in one pass, with extensions on top.

Will Flux 3 Max stay this cheap?

The 75% launch discount on fal runs through 7 November 2026. After that, fal's list price of $0.17 per second at 720p applies. See what Flux 3 Max is and what it costs for the full breakdown.

The Bottom Line

Flux 3 Max and Seedance 2.5 are tied on image-to-video quality by the only public blind-vote leaderboard. Flux 3 Max wins on speed by a vendor-measured 25× and on price, by about 10× until 7 November and about 2.4× after. Seedance 2.5 wins on clip length and reference control.

  • Use Flux 3 Max for fast iteration, b-roll, product shots and anything under 20 seconds without a recurring face.
  • Use Seedance 2.5 for character continuity, voice references and long single takes.
  • Re-check the speed claim when independent benchmarks land. We will update this page when they do.
